Japan: Courts and Culture

  • Tuesday 4 August 2020
(11am - meet in gallery foyer at 10.40am)
  • Queens Gallery, Buckingham Palace, London SW1E 6JP
  • Lecturer: Gallery guide

Highlights from the Royal Collection will be brought together to tell the story of 300 years of diplomatic, artistic and cultural links between the British and Japanese royal families.

The exhibition will include rare pieces of intricately decorated porcelain and lacquer, early gifts of samurai armour, exquisite embroidered screens and diplomatic gifts from the reigns of James I to Her Majesty The Queen. Together, they offer a unique insight into the worlds of ritual, honour and artistry linking the courts and cultures of Britain and Japan. (Copied from exhibition publicity.)

The visit will begin with a private lecture and then we will visit the exhibition (not a guided tour).
