Romanesque Floors: images and uses

(6pm) - The Art Workers' Guild, 6 Queen Square, Bloomsbury, London WC1N 3AT
- Lecturer: Dr Richard Plant
The survival of the practice of making mosaic floors from the late-antique period into the Romanesque is often overlooked, partly because we sometimes don’t look down, partly because it is a fragile medium. There are however surprising survivals in format and images, and artistry aside are fascinating in their sometimes bizarre, sometimes cosmic imagery. This talk will provide a brief overview of some of the more notable examples of each.
Lecturer
Dr Richard Plant is a London-based architectural historian, specialising in the Romanesque architecture of England and the Holy Roman Empire.
