Royal Geographical Society: ‘hot ‘n cold’ display of artefacts and supporting material

    (11.30am-1pm - meet at 11.15am at Exhibition Road entrance)

The display features material from exploration in the hot parts of the world and in the cold parts. In the hot section we have the search for the source of the Nile (features Burton, Speke, Livingstone, Stanley etc.) and desert exploration (features the explorations of Hedin and Stein in the Taklamakan Desert; Bell, Thomas and Philby in the Arabian Desert and Bagnold, Clayton, Almassy etc. in the Western/Libyan Desert). In the cold section we have the search for the Northwest Passage (featuring John and James Clark Ross, Parry and Franklin) and the exploration of the Antarctic (featuring Scott, Shackleton and Amundsen, etc.); and the climbing of Mount Everest (featuring Mallory, Irvine, Wager, Hillary, Tensing Norgay etc.).
