Wednesday 11 October 2023
(2.15pm for 2.30pm start (meet Courtyard entrance - café nearby)) - The Fitzwilliam Museum, Trumpington Street, Cambridge CB2 1RB
- Leader: Sarah Burles
The Fitzwilliam Museum is home to the most important collection of art and antiquities in East Anglia. The collection is wide-ranging and world class in many different areas. It includes ancient artefacts, medieval manuscripts, Old Master and Impressionist paintings, sculptures, ceramics, coins, medals, Asian and contemporary art. We will be met and guided at The Fitzwilliam by Sarah Burles, art historian and lecturer, who worked at the museum for many years and knows its collections well. Highlights will include paintings by Domenico Veneziano, Titian, Van Dyck, Gainsborough, Millais and Monet. As we explore the museum together, Sarah will also share some particular stories of the collectors, directors, artists and philanthropists who shaped the museum we see today.
This visit complements the study day on The Fitzwilliam Museum, as part of The Summer Series, on the 15 June 2023.
Vox receivers will be used during the tour of the museum to make the listening experience more relaxed.
