South African artist William Kentridge is renowned for his animated expressionist drawings and films, as well as his work in prints, books, sculpture, and the performing arts. In his largest artistic endeavour to date, he installed the work entitled Triumphs and Laments along the 550 metre stretch of the Tiber embankment walls in Rome, between Ponte Sisto and Ponte Mazzini. The frieze, executed in a technique known as reverse graffiti, was inaugurated on 21st April 2016 to celebrate Rome’s 2,769th birthday.
