Overseas Exhibitions

Rendezvous of Dreams: Surrealism & German Romanticism. Hamburger Kunsthalle, Hamburg, Germany. Until 12th October.

Featuring works by Surrealist artists like Max Ernst and Salvador Dalí alongside references to Romantic figures such as Caspar David Friedrich and Novalis, this exhibition explores the deep connections between Surrealism and German Romanticism. It aims to reveal how both movements were shaped by dreams, nature, the irrational, and a search for new artistic and spiritual values.

Van Gogh, The Last Journeys. Château d’Auvers, Auvers-sur-Oise, France. Extended until 2nd November 2025.

This exhibition focuses on the last four years of Van Gogh’s life through prints, artworks by contemporary artists, and reproductions of Van Gogh’s work. This is a wonderful recommendation from a member who has visited stating that whilst it is not a blockbuster it covers the phases and influences in/of Van Gogh’s life as well as his final days in Auvers.

Othoniel Cosmos or The Ghosts of Love. Avignon, France. Until 4th January 2026

As a celebration of the 25th anniversary of Avignon as the European Capital of Culture, and the 30th anniversary of its inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List, Jean-Michel Othoniel has created a giant artistic constellation around the city of the Popes. Spread over 10 locations including historical sites and museums and with more than 260 works by Othoniel, this project highlights the richness and uniqueness of the city of Avignon.
