Tour at Middle Temple

  • Tuesday 11 June 2024
(11am Tour with option for lunch afterwards*)
  • Leader: Official Guide

Located in the heart of London’s legal quarter, Middle Temple Hall is one of the four ancient Inns of Court, the other three being: Gray’s Inn, Lincoln’s Inn and Inner Temple.

The Knights Templar arrived in the twelfth century and later the lawyers in the fourteenth and the establishment flourished and grew in stature under the Tudors.

The main buildings built between 1562 and 1573 have remained virtually unchanged to this day, with many original features surviving the Great Fire of London and both World Wars. Superb, detailed architecture, impressive oak panelling and beautiful stained glass.

The Archive of the Middle Temple spans from 1500 to the present day, and provides a rich and fascinating documentary record of the Inn’s history and its place in the world.

The focus of the tour will be art and architecture.

*Lunch will take place in the Elizabethan Middle Temple Hall – two courses plus coffee, £22
